More Stuff That Roma's Learnin'

Hi, it's me, Klu. But this isn't a post by me. This is a post by Roma. I miss Roma somethin' fierce. Here's the post she wrote. I'm glad she's doin' some postin', cuz sometimes I can't think of nothin' to do some bloggin' 'bout.

Love,
Klu the Bear

PS. I wish I could see a moose.

Dear Klu,

You know I like learning ‘bout stuff, and moose are really, really interesting. I’ve been learning lots about them in books and on the internet (my dad helps me use the mouse for the computer).

Here’ a picture of a baby moose. They are SO different than human babies.

Moose babies are called calves. They can stand up in one day (my mom told me I couldn’t stand up ‘til I was like 9 months old!) AND they can swim when they are two weeks old. Can you believe it?

Mama moose are very protective of their calves (that means they take really good care of their kids) and they will chase people if they get too close. Moose can run super duper fast even though they look kinda clumsy sometimes because their front legs are longer than their back legs! They can run as fast as a car -- up to 35 miles per hour. I can’t even ride my bike that fast (though Uncle Kerms can, for sure).

Calves stop drinking their mom’s milk after about six months, and they only stay with their mom until they are one year old. Then they go out into the forest on their own. Would you be scared to live in a forest if you were one year old, Klu? I know you’re a bear and all, but wouldn’t you be scared? That’s really young to try and be all grown up already.

I’m glad I don’t have to live in the forest all by myself. I like living with my Big Mummy and Papa. We are moving to a house in the forest soon, but I get to stay inside at night by the cosy fire. Maybe my mama and papa will let me roast marshmallows. Could you come and visit me, Klu and all the kids? We could roast marshmallows together, ‘kay?

Dear Klu,

I feel sad 'cause no one posted a comment about my moose stories. I guess I am not a famous bloggin' bear like you.

Anyway, I wanted you to know, Klu, that I keep track everyday how many moose I see. Today I saw two and yesterday I saw three, and I also saw two owls today. I like living where there are cool wildlife everywhere.

Love,
Your cousin Roma Jean

Roma Jean,
Cancha bring the baby mooses home wif you and let him sleep by the fire, too? I betcha owls would like a warm fire, too!

Last time we were in the woods, we foundeded a woodland gnome and his buddy, Black Bear. Both live wif us now! Woodland Gnome helps protect our garden, and Black Bear hangs on our Christmus tree, so lives with the Christmas tree family!

Also, wondering -- whicha do all day, Klu? Do you have any traditions? Our traditions are to watch Jeopardy, and collect money when Peoples on TV say colorful words!

Peoples worry 'bout going places for excitment, but bears find excitment every where! You're so lucky to see all that 'struction happening so near you! We got to watch a scoop dig up our street last year!

Not as exciting, but sliding down railings, playing Hide 'N Seek, and catching rides with our buddies, the Pigeons, are all exciting to us! Betcha do fun stuff round the house, too!

In the Uk we don't have anything as great as moose. We went to Canada once and went to Moose Valley but we never saw a moose then either. Infact the whole time we only saw a deer. No bears, no moose.... we kept seeing signs saying "Watch out for wildlife" we watched and watched but never saw any. We enjoyed your photos though. Sue

Front legs longer than the back legs. Never noticed before. And 35mph is very fast for such a clumsey looking animal.

Klu, some people think you're not a bloggin bear anymore, but I don't think that's true. It's just that your big mummy is too busy gettin' her wedding planned that she won't help you with the 'puter. What's up, Klu? We're missin' you something fierce!

Love your cuz,
Roma Jean
